Nick Cullen

Nick Cullen worked at Goldman Sachs for 18 years and retired as a Managing Director in 2019. He was the head of the North American Corporate, Real Money, and eCommerce Foreign Exchange sales desks. During his years at Goldman Sachs, Nick was very involved in establishing sales policies and practices at the firm. He was integral in the firm’s efforts to train incoming employees regarding customer service and acquiring new business. The businesses that he led were consistently ranked as top growth areas of the firm. In addition, Nick was actively involved in recruiting new employees at Goldman Sachs. Over the last 15 years, he was specifically in charge of recruiting at Virginia Tech and helped create a pipeline of candidates and employees from Virginia Tech to Goldman Sachs. Nick still enjoys dedicating significant hours to advising students on careers paths. Whether it is a phone call, hosting a networking event, or producing referrals for Pamplin alumni, he is dedicated to advancing the minds and careers of his fellow Hokies.  

Prior to Goldman Sachs, Nick worked as a Sales Representative for DuPont and then as a Sales Manager for AkzoNobel. Both of these jobs were in the Coatings Business.  From there, Nick attended the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University where he received his Masters of Business Administration. He received his job offer from Goldman Sachs after a summer internship spent in the Fixed Income Division at GS.   

Nick currently serves on the Virginia Tech Pamplin Advisory Council, Virginia Tech Finance Board, SEED Advisory Board, and was recently named Board Member of the Apex Center for Entrepreneurs.  He is recently retired and is an active investor in the stock and bond markets, private real estate transactions, healthcare companies, drug and alcohol treatment centers, and property management businesses.  Nick was the Captain of the 1990 Virginia Tech football team and was named a GTE Academic All-American that same year.  He is also a member of the Legends of Lane Stadium in recognition of his football playing days at Virginia Tech. 

Nick resides in Westfield, New Jersey. He is married to Hokie Alumni Mindy (Parker) Cullen.  His son Jake is a senior at Virginia Tech majoring in Finance and his daughter Macey is a senior at Westfield High School.
