We offer the tools to allow our faculty to thrive.

Virginia Tech offers extensive support to faculty engaged in research through various dedicated offices and resources.

The Office of Research and Innovation provides comprehensive administrative assistance, program oversight, training, and research management tools to facilitate successful research endeavors.

The University Libraries offer specialized services, including research data management, analysis support, and assistance with visualization and publication, ensuring faculty have access to essential resources throughout the research lifecycle.

The Virginia Tech Faculty Activity Support Team (VT-FAST) assists with all aspects of proposal development, ranging from quick reviews of single-investigator proposals to comprehensive support for large, complex submissions.

The Faculty Research Incentive Plan (FRIP) encourages faculty to secure external funding by offering financial incentives for obtaining competitive grants and contracts.

Through these coordinated efforts, Virginia Tech fosters a robust environment that promotes and sustains faculty research excellence.

Virginia Tech offers a comprehensive array of professional development resources to support its faculty's growth and success.

The Office of Faculty Affairs plays a central role by overseeing initiatives related to recruitment, retention, promotion, and tenure, while also providing workshops and resources aimed at fostering faculty well-being and professional advancement.

Recognizing the importance of mentorship, Virginia Tech maintains an institutional membership with the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD), granting faculty access to a wealth of resources, including professional development programs, training sessions, and mentorship opportunities.

Additionally, the university organizes events like the annual VT Faculty Mentoring Forum, which facilitates the sharing of effective mentoring strategies and addresses challenges in faculty professional growth.

For faculty interested in career advising, the Career Champions program, developed by Career and Professional Development (CPD), offers training that equips faculty and staff with tools to confidently engage in career-related discussions with students – including a Career Readiness Toolkit, featuring activities and modules that faculty can seamlessly incorporate into their curricula to enhance students' career preparedness.

To streamline access to these and other professional development opportunities, Virginia Tech has introduced My Career Stream, a collection of resources designed to help faculty and staff intentionally navigate their career paths and achieve their professional goals.

Through these diverse programs and resources, Virginia Tech demonstrates its commitment to fostering an environment conducive to faculty excellence and continuous professional development.

At Virginia Tech, The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies (TLOS) play crucial roles in supporting faculty teaching.

CETL fosters the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learner-centered instruction; promotes and recognizes excellence in teaching; supports and conducts research on teaching and learning; and advocates for a learning environment that values educating the whole student.

TLOS improves student learning by fostering digital fluency, partnering with faculty to design and develop successful digital learning experiences, and providing technology-enhanced environments for flexible and online learning.

Both organizations support faculty by offering essential tools, professional development opportunities, and innovative strategies to enhance teaching and learning.
