Biography

Dr. Paye’s teaching experience ranges from the undergraduate to PhD levels. During his prior appointment at the University of Georgia, he taught a PhD course surveying econometric methods used in financial research. His teaching experience also includes MBA-level courses in managerial economics and forecasting, and CFA exam preparatory sessions in statistics and behavioral finance. At the undergraduate level, Dr. Paye has taught courses covering financial markets and institutions and computer-based financial modeling. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Dr. Paye served as an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Georgia (Terry College of Business) and Rice University (Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business.

Dr. Paye’s research interests center on asset pricing and interactions between financial markets and macroeconomic conditions. His broader academic interests include volatility modeling, forecasting, econometrics, and the interdisciplinary field of neurofinance. His research has been published in prominent peer-reviewed academic journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and the Journal of Econometrics.

Professional Achievements

Dr. Paye has served as an ad hoc referee for a wide range of academic journals, including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, and the Review of Financial Studies. In addition, he has served on the program committee of various academic conferences, including the annual meetings of the European Financial Association and the Financial Management Association. Dr. Paye is a member of the American Economic Association, American Finance Association, European Finance Association, Financial Management Association, and the Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFIE).
