Yashar Barardehi

Yashar Barardehi is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Pamplin College of Business. He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015, and he has taught at Chapman University and Ohio University prior to joining Pamplin. He has also served as a Financial Economist at the US Securities and Exchange Commission from 2021 to 2024.

Yashar’s research explores how trading mechanisms in security markets shape market quality, investor behavior, and asset prices. Using these insights, he has developed several measures of liquidity and informed trading that help researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to evaluate market conditions. Many of these measures have been featured on the Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) platform. His work has been published in leading academic outlets, such as the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Management Science, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, presented at major academic and practitioner conferences worldwide, recognized by research awards, and referenced in policy debates and media. He serves as an associate editor of the Quarterly Reviews of Economics and Finance since 2022.

Yashar has extensive experience teaching Investments, Corporate Finance, and Quantitative Methods for Business at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
