Video ItemVirginia Tech Graduate Research Student Researchers Team Up with High Schoolers to Help Cool Down Local Park , video
Graduate Students in Virginia Tech’s School of Public and International Affairs, led by Assistant Professor Theo Lim, developed an interactive game to help solve a problem for the City of Roanoke, Virginia. McCadden Park is located in one of the hottest areas of the city, and is in need of a redesign. Thanks to a partnership with Virginia Western Community College, Lim’s class taught high school students how to play the game and share their ideas. Lim earned a National Science Foundation grant to lead lead a multidisciplinary team of graduate student researchers in a collaboration with the City of Roanoke to alleviate the heat burden in areas throughout the city, and ultimately enhance living conditions for local residents.
