Getting to know Dr. Jamie Lynn Byram
December 10, 2021

Dr. Jamie Lynn Byram started teaching as a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice with the Finance, Insurance, & Business Law department in the Fall of 2021. Currently, she is instructing classes in the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Corporate Financial Management, Risk Management & Banking options of the Finance program. She also oversees advising for the Financial Planning Association Student Chapter, a student-run organization dedicated to providing professional development and networking opportunities to students interested in entering the financial planning profession.
When Dr. Byram joined the Finance Department, she shared her professional and academic career achievements, which included her research focuses, publications, previous universities she taught at, her doctoral student recognitions, and her business ventures. Recently, we connected with her to get to know her more personally and understand what she likes to do outside of the classroom. Here's what she said:
What do you like to do outside of the classroom, and is there anyone special you like to include? - I enjoy playing tennis, especially mixed doubles with my husband, Rob. I love any activity that involves my dog, Hank. I enjoy cooking for family and friends. I also enjoy hosting our neighbors for wine in the driveway during Covid.

What is your #1 recommended experience in Blacksburg/Christiansburg? - I am unsure, we have only lived here a year and during Covid. I asked my students to list their favorites and the Bald Knob was a favorite, especially at sunset.

List one item on your bucket list you wish to cross off and one item that you have crossed off: I want to visit Grindelwald, Switzerland. I participated in an archaeology dig in Tel Dan, Israel.
