Mr. Newton’s is an adjunct faculty member whose teaching responsibility is the “Survey of Finance & Careers” course FIN 2164. He has also taught the "Business Policy & Strategy: Course MGT 4394, the "Strategic Business Environment" Course MGT 5634, the "Global Strategic Management" course MGT 5684 and the "Organizational Behavior" course MGT 3324. He has previously taught Bank Management, Investments, and Money and Banking. He previously served on the adjunct faculty at University of Richmond, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, and Virginia Union University. He coauthored a textbook entitled “Bank Investments” for the American Institute of Banking, a course which he taught.
Mr. Newton began his career as a financial analyst in manufacturing. He then worked in various positions (including CFO, Treasurer, Controller) in the banking sector (19+ years) and manufacturing (6 years). For the last 19 years he has been a small business consultant in a variety of assignments, has arranged debt and equity placements for businesses, and has been involved in several startups and early stage business formations. He has spoken on several topics at industry conferences.

Mr. Newton is recognized for his contributions to the banking and investment communities, community service, and exceptional service to Virginia Tech's MBA program. Newton earned his Pamplin MBA immediately after receiving a B.S. in management, also from Virginia Tech. After completing his education, he worked as an analyst at what is now the Newport News Shipyard. From there he moved into a 19-year commercial banking career including CFO, followed by 6 years for a commercial ship repair government contractor as CFO, and for the last 19 years has provided CFO advisory services and arrangement of equity and debt placements to small business clients. His service to Virginia Tech has been equally energetic. He serves on the Pamplin Advisory Council, mentors MBA and undergraduate students, and provides alumni support in other activities.
